Overall there are usually 2 – 3 interviews before being offered a job. The first interview tends to be more open-ended so we advise you not to ask too many detailed questions about the terms and conditions, just relax and try to enjoy yourself. During the 2nd and/or 3rd interviews, questions from both you and the interviewer will be much more focused – this is when it is best for you to ask more detailed questions about the terms and conditions of the specific job.

Listen carefully, but don’t get overwhelmed, say your bit but try not to interrupt

Body language
• Use direct eye contact
• Be open and relaxed, don’t sit there with your arms crossed as this means you are on the defensive
• Try not to fidget. Although you may be nervous employers will be imagining what you are like in stressful situations, an interview is a test for this

Be concise
• Take your time, think about what your are saying and try not to veer off the point when answering questions
• Don’t ramble, less is more
• Tell your story, the things you are proud of, things you have not been so proud of and what you have learnt from this

Two way process
• The interview is as much about you liking them as it is about them liking you. Make sure you find out everything you would like to know
• Be ready to give views as to why you would be good for the job

Be passionate and enthusiastic
• About your practical experience
• About where you currently work (nobody likes a moaner)
• About their offering

Be interested in
• Their clients
